The New York Post has a video on their website of a retired NY police sergeant being beaten by two guys who are in their early 20's. The former cop had just exited a convenience store in Manhattan, spoke to the two guys and then got savagely beaten and robbed. A security camera caught the whole incident on video.
The key to the story is not the incident, but the "new" response. Police caught the perps who inflicted this outrage on the retired cop. They gave them desk appearance tickets for "aggresive panhandling". That's it. No charge for assault. No charge for robbery. Nothing that might result in actual jail time for these thugs. Just a desk appearance ticket. Want to bet on whether or not these thugs actually show up when their cases come up?
They used to say, "don't do the crime if you don't want to do the time." The new phrase in New York should be "don't do the crime if you don't want to have to rip up the desk appearance ticket."
