Weekly Unemployment Claims Are No Longer News For the Mainstream Media

There was some great economic news this morning.  The weekly number of people making new unemployment claims dropped below one million for the first time since the pandemic hit.  There were 963,000 such claims, a decline of over 20% from the last week.  The "experts" were expecting 1,100,000 claims so the actual number beat the experts estimate by about 13%.  Continuing claims also came in way below last week.  That means that a great many new jobs were being created and people previously out of work were returning to regular employment.  This is an awesome improvement for the economy.

Given these numbers, you would expect there to be some major coverage from the media.  After all, each time there were bad numbers, they were plastered all over the news for days.  There was no such coverage, however,  I just checked the websites of CBS News, NBC News, and CNN and they don't even mention the weekly unemployment report.  ABC News has a small article buried deep inside their website.  The report indicates that in just the last week something between a half and three-quarters of a million new jobs were created, but the media cannot be bothered to report that.

Obviously, there is no report because this is good news that might (gasp!) help President Trump in his re-election bid.  It's truly sad.
