The Trump Executive Orders regarding Pandemic Relief

President Trump signed four executive orders yesterday taking action to provide relief to Americans hurting due to the pandemic.  Trump deferred collection of payroll taxes til the end of the year, suspended collection of federal student loans, placed a moratorium on evictions in federally supported housing, and provided for continuing an extra $400 per week in unemployment compensation.

The Democrats and the media are apoplectic.  Nancy Pelosi called Trump's actions an "illusion".  Various media people are saying that what Trump did has severe limitations.  Other Democrats have threatened lawsuits to stop the orders from taking effect.

One point of interest, though, is that Joe Biden has not reacted at all to these executive orders.  The guy who wants to be president apparently doesn't have a view about these measures.

Think about it.  Months ago, the Democrats in the House passed a measure that spends many trillions of dollars mostly on the left wing wish list for items like the Green New Deal, voting by mail and other measures that have nothing to do with the pandemic. The Dems knew at the time that the measure they passed had no chance of becoming law.  Over the last month, Republicans and Democrats have "negotiated" on the terms of a relief measure.  The Democrats, however, refused to change any of their demands until a few days ago.  They waited for the unemployment benefits to run out for millions of people before even starting to negotiate with the Republicans.  The Democrats thought that they would be in the driver's seat because unlike the Republicans, the Democrats were willing to let millions of Americans suffer in order to put pressure on the negotiators.  Now President Trump has flipped the script.

Trump has provided funds to the unemployed, something the Democrats are now seeking to block.  Trump has given relief to people with school loans, something the Democrats are now seeking to block.  Trump has barred evictions from federally assisted housing, again something the Democrats are seeking to block.  Trump has also cut taxes on all working Americans earning less than $100,000 per year, and the Democrats are trying to block that too.

The likely outcome here is that the Democrats will quickly negotiate a full deal with the GOP to replace the Trump executive orders.  Not even a group as power hungry as the Democrats will last long as they try to block relief for millions of Americans in need; the power hungry nature of that move would just be too much for most Americans to stomach.  Simply put, the Democrats plans to use the discomfort and need of average Americans to pressure Trump and the Republicans have blown up in their faces.

It could not have happened to a more deserving bunch of heartless reprobates.
