Englewood is a neighborhood in Chicago that has mobilized against Black Lives Matter demonstrations. A group of BLM protesters appeared in the neighborhood yesterday and was met by local residents who approached the protesters and told them to "get the f___ out". The neighborhood group was said by the protesters to have "menaced" them and the protesters left because they did not "feel safe". It's funny that the protesters who came to menace police fled when they felt menaced by the neighborhood residents who came to stop that attack on the police.
But here's the key to this story: Englewood is roughly 99% black. The neighborhood group that confronted the protesters was all black. So Black Lives Matter protesters were thrown out of the neighborhood by blacks.
This is just one event, but it seems extremely telling. The support for BLM and its anti-police actions is far from unanimous in the black community. Indeed, in this Chicago neighborhood, there doesn't seem to be anyone who was supporting the protests. Maybe this should inform the white community that they can oppose the anti-police tactics of BLM without being "racist". Being anti police is foolish; being pro police is not racist.
