Yesterday, for public consumption, Joe Biden told Kamala Harris that she was his pick for VP. It's the sort of event that politicians run all the time. Biden has probably participated in similar events hundreds if not thousands of time in his very long career. Biden had a video chat with Harris which was filmed by the TV crews. It should have been a non-event, but it actually turned into a disaster.
First, the film crew inadvertently showed that Biden was reading his comments to Harris from a script. Biden was supposedly informing Harris that she would be his running mate. The short conversation was too much for him to deal with absent a written script from which he read. How can the guy be president if he can't even handle a non-controversial four minute phone conversation unless someone else wrote him a script to read?
Second, Biden was holding his cell phone and supposedly using it as part of the call with Harris. It was upside down though. Biden apparently doesn't even know that the cell phone speaker and microphone are on one end of the device. No wonder he told parents during one debate to make sure they had the "record player" on in the evening when the kids were going to sleep. At least he didn't call it the Victrola. The man is totally out of touch.
It seems that no matter what Biden does, his mental decline gets highlighted. Some wag suggested that for the debates, Biden will appear with a full body mask so that someone else can actually be debating Donald Trump. At this point, nothing would surprise me.
