The Mullahs are Mulling

There must be consternation in Teheran as I write this.  The large shipment of dangerous and accurate missiles that the Iranians sent to Hezbollah via Syria is being systematically destroyed by the Israelis.  On Sunday, Israeli planes attacked two more locations where the missiles were being stored prior to their shipment on to Hezbollah in Lebanon.  This time, the targets were in the area of Damascus, the Syrian capital.  There was no opposition offered to the Israeli planes by Syrian air defenses.

There are a number of lessons to be learned from these events:

1.  When Israel announces that it will not tolerate advanced weaponry in the hands of Hezbollah, it means what it says.  Imagine that!  Israel announces red lines and then acts to enforce them.  How interesting!

2.  The Assad forces in Syria are not prepared to challenge the Israeli Air Force.  This is very important.  Remember, the United States Air Force is much, much more powerful than the Israeli Air Force.  Israel does not have stealth technology.  Israel does not have anywhere near the ability of the Americans to surpress anti-aircraft fire or to use smart bombs to take out precise targets.  Nevertheless, the Syrians are unwilling to take on even the Israelis.  Despite this, we continue to hear again and again that the United States could not take action in Syria because that nation, unlike Libya, has a strong air defense.  Look, the last time that Syria's air forces took on the Israelis, there were over 80 Syrian fighter jets shot down in one day without the loss of a single Israeli plane.  The Syrians will not rise to fight American planes.  And, if I am wrong and the Syrians do resist, they will not do so for long.

3.  The Iranians are preparing for the fall of Assad.  That is why they are rushing new weapons to Hezbollah while the route through Syria is still open.  Fortunately, the ploy did not work.

4.  Israel has not issued any announcement about what happened or about what weapons were being attacked.  The Israeli prime minister has not discussed the chain of custody of the missiles.  Nor has he engaged in debates about how many chemical weapons can dance on the head of a pin.  He has led his government to defend the people of Israel and their interests.  Again, how refreshing!

5.  At some point soon, there will be a counter move taken by the mullahs in Teheran.  Most likely it will be some sort of terror attack against an Israeli target somewhere in the world.  Alternatively, it might be a missile attack from Hamas or Hezbollah, but I doubt this.  If either terror group began a fight with the Israelis, they would find themselves hard pressed to restock their supplies.  My guess is that even if their Iranian masters order these groups to attack, they will choose not to do so.
