A Few Numbers

Here are two important numbers:  88% and 36,000.  Do you know what they are?  Hint:  they have something to do with Obamacare.

Here is the answer:  88% is the decline in the number of people who tried to get on the federal healthcare exchange during the second week of operation compared to the first week.  36,000 is the number of insurance policies sold so far by the federal exchange.

These are extremely important figures.  Remember that we have been told by the Obama administration that the reason why the federal exchange site does not yet work is that it is swamped by so many Americans wanting to get on the site.  That is a lie, and the 88% figure makes that fact clear.  Let's assume that the first few days, there really was a tidal wave of folks trying to get on the Obamacare exchange and that it affected the performance of the site.  During the second week, however, seven out of eight of the people who tried the first week were gone; only a trickle of people came to the site during that second week.  But guess what?  The site still did not function properly; it remained a disaster.  So we know that even when the number of visitors was something that could easily be handled, the federal Obamacare website would not work.  If nothing happens quickly to improve the ability of the site to function, it will be a total failure.

Then there is the number of uninsured who are getting policies from the Obamacare exchange.  There are supposed to be eight million or so folks who buy insurance from the exchanges according to the government's projections.  To be clear, all of those sales are to take place in a 24 week period.  That means that there needs to be over 300,000 policies sold each week just to meet that estimate.  Over two of those 24 weeks have now passed and only 36,000 policies have been sold.  Clearly, the exchanges are failing in their purpose to sell insurance.

These numbers reveal a disaster of major proportions.  It is true that maybe things will right themselves and the system will start to work.  Maybe sales will pick up as we get closer to January first.  As each day goes by without that happening, however, we are getting closer and closer to the reality that Obamacare is failing.  Billions and billions in taxes have been collected to pay for this law.  Millions of people have lost their insurance because of the requirements of the law.  Unknown thousands or millions have been moved from full time to part time work because of the law.  Thousands of doctors are retiring rather than deal with Obamacare.  The American economy has taken a major hit because of the law.  If it now turns out that after all of these enormous costs, there is actually no meaningful reduction in the number of folks without insurance, it will make the debacle that much worse.

Obama is running out of time.  His signature "achievement" is turning out to be a failure.

What kind of loser is still ranting against this? If you don't have an alternative solution to offer, then you're saying that everything was just fine as it was. Is that what you're saying? Are you saying that it's acceptable to live in the richest country in the history of the world, but have a healthcare system which prevents anyone who has ever had a serious illness from being insured because they now brandish the scarlet "P" of having a pre-existing condition. Is it acceptable to you to live in a country where 80% of households are one serious illness away from bankruptcy? Is that OK with you? Yes, Obamacare should be better. The reason that it's not is assholes like you and the people you put in office who watered it down. We *should* have a single payer type system like all those *horrible* european countries have, you know the ones with the poor standards of living that rank so low on the happiness index. Christ, you're still bitching about this endlessly. What is your solution???! If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Let me guess, you're one of those republican assholes who is happy with their health insurance, so fuck everyone else, right? Stop complaining... if you don't like Obamacare, then what is your solution??? Because pretending like everything was working just great as it was is idiotic.
