Have the Democrats Lost It?

With the ongoing fight in Washington over the partial government shutdown, there are a lot of stories swirling around relating the effects of the dispute.  Few, however, have been as ridiculous as one from South Dakota.  According to the Sioux Falls Business Journal, the feds have closed highway viewing areas along roads from which folks could get a good look at Mount Rushmore.  Now let's be clear.  The areas closed are not actually part of the Mount Rushmore site.  These are areas alongside highways where people can park and then take pictures of the Mountain.  The parking areas are part of the state highway system.  Nevertheless, the National Park Service cordoned off access to the parking sites because of the partial government shutdown.  Unbelievable!

In normal times, the Park Service has nothing whatsoever to do with the operation of these viewing areas.  That means that the cost of placing the barriers to keep people out of the viewing area is an extra expense undertaken by the Park Service even though its budget is not approved.  It also means that the Park Service has been directed to take actions designed to inflict the maximum pain on the public as a result of the partial shutdown of the government.

There are stories about the feds ousting folks who live in private homes (which they own) but which happen to be within federal lands.  There are, of course, stories about the feds closing national monuments which are outside, open to the public and normally unmanned.  These are acts of a vindictive government trying to hurt the people as much as possible in order to get a political gain from the shutdown.

These are all stupid moves by the Democrats.  What is happening now is that the American people are seeing the Democrats trying to hurt as many people a possible because the Democrats think that the Republicans will be blamed.  I think they have gone too far this time, even with a compliant media to help.  We will all soon see.
