Living In a Delusion

Today in Washington, president Obama spoke about the roll out of the Obamacare exchanges.  He said he was frustrated by some of the problems (he called the "glitches") that users have experienced.  Then, in a rather strange statement given the reality of the situation, Obama said this:

The point is the essence of the law, the health insurance that's available to people, is working just fine. In some cases, actually, it's exceeding expectations.

Listening to Obama claim that the law was now "exceeding expectations" except for the fact that no one can actually buy insurance since the exchanges don't work, I started to wonder if he truly believes this stuff.  Think about it.  Obama is not stupid.  He should know that millions upon millions of people have been unable to use healthcare.gov, the federal Obamacare exchange.  He must also know that only about 1% of the people who tried to get on the site were able to register so that they could see the insurance policies available for sale.  He must also know the paltry number of policies actually sold even though the federal government is keeping that number from the public.  My guess is that Obama also knows that organizations like Consumer Reports have recommended to readers no to bother even trying to use the exchanges for at least another month.  So how can Obama say that the roll out is "exceeding expectations"?  That's much like telling us that a condemned man who was just executed thought the electric chair was not as bed as he had expected.

For much of the last year, Obama has repeatedly claimed to be unaware of major things happening in the government.  Obama said he learned about the IRS targeting of conservatives from the news reports even though his Chief of Staff and multiple Cabinet Secretaries knew all about it.  Obama also claimed surprise at some of the events surrounding the terror attack in Benghazi.  Similarly, Obama claimed to be out of the loop with regard to the Justice Department targeting reporters in order to intimidate them.  Can it be that Obama really believes that the Obamacare roll out has "exceeded expectations"?

For a number of years, I have concluded that Obama is just a pathological liar, unable ever to admit any failure or mistake.  It was horrible to think that the president of the United States of America was such a casual and persistent liar.  Now I am worried that it is something worse.  Is Obama just delusional?  Does he really tune out events around him and live in a dreamworld?  That thought is even scarier than Obama's being a pathological liar.  At least as a liar, Obama would know himself what is really happening.
