They Would If They Could

Former White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley said today that firing Kathleen Sebelius for the mess made by the Obamacare Exchange rollout would be "like firing the captain of the Titanic after it hit the iceberg."

So here's the question:  does anyone actually think that the White Star Lines which owned the Titanic would NOT have fired the captain of the Titanic had he survived?  Of course, they would have fired him.

Sebelius needs to go.  It was her job to exercise some level of oversight on the website development process.  There had to be interim dates set for component parts of the system to be completed so that they could be fully tested before going live.  There had to be someone with the courage enough to learn of the impending disaster which the programmers all knew was coming who would then try to delay the roll out.  None of this required computer skills.  It required management skills.  Clearly, Sebelius does not possess these skills.

And here's the second question:  if Sebelius was unable to manage the roll out of Obamacare's exchanges, why would anyone believe that she can manage the repair of the defective websites now that there is tremendous pressure to move quickly with them?  What Obama is doing is not like firing the captain of the Titanic after it hit the iceberg.  It's actually more like naming the captain of the Titanic to head training for all captains in the White Star fleet for how to deal with icebergs.

She has to go.
