Last week, I wrote about the movie put out by Disney called "The Fifth Estate" which is about Julian Assange and Wikileaks. It had flopped on opening. I happened this morning to see some later box office figures. The last day for which figures are currently available show that the grosses for The Fifth Estate were $77 per screen. That's not a typo. The results are not horrid; they are worse than that. Maybe Hollywood will finally understand that most Americans do not want to see political polemics at the movies. Disney probably lost at least fifty million on this turkey.
So here's the big question: will we see a movie about Edward Snowden and the NSA in the next two years? The answer clearly should be no, but the smart money is probably on yes. The only question is which studio is going to get the big loss.
