Earlier today, I wrote about the people who are "surprised" that many folks cannot keep their insurance under Obamacare despite the endless number of times that the president promised the American people that just the opposite would happen. Well, the numbers are out, and it just got much, much worse.
According to Health Care Policy and Marketplace Review, a non-partisan site covering healthcare policy and reform, about 85% of all people with individual policies are going to lose those plans since they do not comply with the regulations under Obamacare. To be clear, that means that sixteen million policies are going to be cancelled on renewal due to Obamacare. That number again is 16,000,000 policies out of the 19,000,000 total of such policies in America.
This does not cover folks who get insurance from their employers; we are speaking only about the people who buy their own coverage. All of the self employed and the early retired fit into that group. The 19,000,000 policies cover millions more people since many are for family or spousal coverage. While I do not have the exact numbers, we clearly are talking about something like a minimum of twenty five million people who will lose their coverage and have to replace it over the next year.
The worst part of this mess is that essentially all of these people are going to find that their premiums have gone up in a major way. Some of these people will qualify for subsidies, but not the majority of the people in this group. Can you imagine the outburst of anger that will be coming from something like fifteen million people who have lost their insurance and now have to pay substantially more for it just because of Obamacare. My prediction is that the worst mistake president Obama ever made was telling Americans again and again that they would save $2500 a year on insurance after Obamacare and that if they liked their plan and their doctor they could keep them.
