Remember Robert Redford? As a young man, he was the handsome Hollywood leading man in numerous films. He slowly moved towards directing as he got older. Now, he is mostly a political activist who trades on his past in the movies to give weight to his political ideas. For years now, Redford has been a global warming true believer who feels no need to stick to the facts or even close to the truth when he talks about the environment. Anyone who has heard Redford talk about the supposed "evils" of fracking knows that he does not have a firm grip on reality. He is still out there in public pushing charges that have been refuted by the Obama EPA, one of the agencies most hostile to drilling. If even the EPA says Redford is wrong, he ought to realize that he needs to change what he is saying, but that has not happened. Redford has already memorized his lines, so it seems to be too difficult to change them.
Lately, Redford has moved from the environment to the favorite leftist cause of the decade: he is now fighting perceived racism where none exists. Here is what the wrinkled former star had to say yesterday on CNN:
“There is a body of congressional people that wants to paralyze the system. I think what sits underneath it, unfortunately, is there’s probably some racism involved, which is really awful. I think just the idea of giving credit to this president, giving him credit for anything, is abhorrent to them so they’ll go against it. … They’re representing their own self-interests, which is very narrow and in some cases bigoted.”
So according to Redford, the opposition in Congress to Obama is racist. I can only say this. Redford is not only wrong, he is also dangerous. He refuses to consider the merits of what was being debated and instead tries to reduce the opponents of his position to being morally wrong. It is a very dangerous place for our society to move. This guy ought to be kept off the air.
