About a year ago, president Obama traded five senior Taliban terrorist leaders in exchange for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Bergdahl has since been formally charged with desertion by the military. We were told at the time that the trade was necessary because Bergdahl's health was in a precarious place (although no proof of that health issue has ever been released.) Obama kept saying how the USA left no one behind.
At the moment, there are over 3000 American civilians left in Yemen. They are under extreme threat from the Houthi rebels, the al Qaeda terrorists and others. Russia, India and other nations are evacuating their citizens from Yemen. President Obama, however, is doing nothing of the sort. These Americans are left to get out on their own. In other words, Obama is leaving 3000 innocent civilians behind. I guess they are not as important as a soldier who deserted. Here's how McClatchy describes the Obama position:
The Obama administration so far has declined to organize a rescue mission for the estimated 3,000 to 4,000 U.S. citizens in Yemen. U.S. officials have said they believe it is too dangerous for U.S. military assets to enter Yemeni waters and air space. They’ve also suggested that organizing Americans to meet at a single departure point would put them at risk of attack from al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula or other terrorist groups seeking American hostages.
That, however, has left Americans largely on their own to find a way out of the country. The U.S. Embassy in Sanaa has been closed for months, and the last American troops in the country were evacuated last month, a few days before the Saudi bombing campaign began.
In a message posted on its website, the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa advises that an Indian naval vessel will be leaving Hodeidah for Djibouti and that it had been informed that Americans would be welcomed. But the embassy also noted that “unfortunately, we don’t have information on who to contact to board this ship.” To put it mildly, this is a disgrace. More than any other nation, the USA has the capability to evacuate its citizens, but we are doing nothing. Indeed, Obama can't even tell the truth about the situation. On the one hand, the government says that gathering the Americans to one place would put them at risk while on the other hand the same government is telling these Americans that they can get on an Indian ship at the port of Hodeidah. How do they get on the ship without gathering together? The truth is that Obama is so strongly against using American military in the Middle East that he is willing to sacrifice 3000 American civilians for his politics. The man is disgusting. No president should abandon Americans if he could take steps to save them.
