Today, the AP put out an article on the shooting at the beer distributor in Connecticut that left nine people dead. The article is headlined "911 call on Conn. Shooting shows Racial Disparity". Up to that point, everything I had read said that the shooter had been fired by the company for stealing, a theft which was caught on the video surveillance system in the company's warehouse. The shooter had been confronted with the tape and resigned. The shooter's family, however, said that he felt he was the victim of racial discrimination although he made no complaints to the union or to his employer about this purported discrimination. When I read the headline, I thought that there was now some proof of the discrimination.
The article, however, had no proof of discrimination. The woman who called 911 from the company's office (she was hiding under a desk at the time) said that the shooter was a "tall black man" who she did not know. That's it! That is the racial disparity of which AP speaks! Are they kidding? A tragedy occurs in which a crazy guy shoots up his place of employment and then kills himself. That is bad enough, but AP has to try to make it into a racial thing which some would say (wrongfully) justifies in some way the shooting. But there is no credible evidence of any racism.
I hate the AP.
