At 12:30 today, I posted about the prevalence of dishonesty in the Obama administration and with the president in particular. By two hours later, another Obama lie had surfaced.
It all stems back to Hillary Clinton's private email system. Obama was asked by CBS News in an interview when he first learned about Hillary's using a private email system rather than the required government system. Here is Obama's response:
“The same time everybody else learned it through news reports.”
That's very clear. Obama says that until a few days ago when the news reports came out, he had no knowledge of Hillary's private email system.
Then came the questions at today's White House briefing. Suddenly the story completely changed. Here's what White House spokesman Josh Earnest had to say:
“The president, as I think many people expected, did over the course of his first several years in office trade emails with his secretary of state. I would not describe the number of emails as large, but they did have the occasion to email each other.”
“The point that the president was making is not that he didn’t know Secretary Clinton’s email address, he did. But he was not aware of the details of how that email address and that server had been set up or how Secretary Clinton and her team were planning to comply with the Federal Records Act.”
So it's pretty clear. Obama says on Saturday he just recently learned that Hillary had a private email system and two days later, the White House spokesman says that is not true. Suddenly were are told that what Obama actually meant was that he did not know all the details of how the private server had been set up or how Clinton planned to comply with the Federal Records Act.
Sure! That's what he said!
The level of lies and BS that comes out of the Obama White House is astounding. Obama does not have it in him to say that he was wrong and then to correct the record. It has to be that he meant what he said but that somehow the mere mortals in the room did not understand its true meaning.
The real truth is that both Obama and Hillary Clinton are congenital liars. It's funny because Obama could easily have left this problem stay as just Hillary's by being honest. I can imagine Obama saying that he noticed Hillary's email address but he never gave it much thought. That would leave the burden of explanation on Hillary. By telling the lie, however, Obama puts himself in the middle of the mess with Hillary. Oh, it's still a bigger story for her, but Obama is managing to bring down himself as a result of Clinton's mistakes. (OK, so it may have been a lot more than a mistake, but you get the point.)
