A Prince of a Fellow

It's a good thing that the British monarch no longer has any real power.  Were that not the case, the people of the UK would have to face the prospect of having a moron leading their nation.  I mean no disrespect to Queen Elizabeth II who has been the head of state for more than the last sixty years.  I am referring to her son, Charles, the prince of Wales.  This is a man who should be forbidden by Parliament from opening his mouth in public.

The latest bit of "wisdom" to spill out of Charles' mouth is that worldwide terrorism has been caused by climate change.  Now I know that there are some environmental crazies who say bizarre things like that, but the prince of Wales?  Really?  What was he thinking.

Let's consider the statement by prince Charles.  He wants to blame terrorism on the elevated levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which are supposedly diminishing food supplies and thereby resulting in terrorism.  There are a few problems, however, with that view:

1.  Terrorism is not new; it predates even the imagined global warming of the environmental crazies.  Fighting between Moslems and the West is also not new.  Indeed, put the two together and you come up with the crusades, which were a potent combination of religious fanaticism, terrorism and Moslem/Christian violence.  When the crusaders took Jerusalem from the Moslems in the twelfth century, the conquerors slaughters all the inhabitants.  It is true that this was terrorism on a large scale by Christians rather than Moslems, but it was terrorism nevertheless.  (And it came long before global warming.)

2.  There is no global food shortage.  If anything, the UN statistics show that the number of people living with inadequate food supplies has dropped dramatically over the last fifty years.  The so called "green revolution" produced plants that provide much higher crop yields and help eradicate hunger.  Further, any global warming to date has increased arable land which would increase not decrease food supplies.

3.  There has not been any increase in global temperatures during the last 18 years according to exact measurements of atmospheric hear taken by satellites.  Terrorism has arisen basically during the last 15 years.  So global warming, if any, stopped and three years later the current wave of terrorism began.  That's quite a delayed reaction.

The only realistic conclusion one can draw from these facts is that the prince of Wales is either misinformed or a moron.  I'll let you pick.
