Here's another of those storylines that the mainstream media pushes which is a real howler: Marco Rubio is now the consensus candidate of the Republican establishment. That's right; after the collapse of Jeb Bush's campaign, the powers that be in the GOP have moved in unison to support Rubio (or at least that's the new media narrative.)
The funny thing, of course, is that in 2010 when Rubio was elected to the senate, he ran in Florida as the candidate of a Tea Party insurgency. Rubio took on and defeated the candidate of the Florida GOP establishment in the primary and then went on to victory in the general election. Since coming to Washington as a senator, Rubio has not been a bomb thrower like Ted Cruz, but he has remained consistent with the positions that got him elected in the first place. For anyone who actually knows Rubio and his history, it is hard to imagine him as the establishment candidate.
Now it may be that the GOP establishment is coalescing around Rubio. Their candidates, Bush and Kasich, have been on a downward trajectory for the last six months. The establishment also is not likely to support outside candidates like Trump or Carson who regularly castigate the establishment. That leaves them with only two viable choices: Cruz and Rubio. For establishment types, that's not a difficult choice, so Rubio wins.
The real truth, however, is that Rubio is not an establishment candidate. The mainstream media is just wrong.
