For the last century and more, the United States and France have been allies. Sometimes we have been closer and sometimes less so, but we have always been allies. We fought together to victory in World War I and World War II. We fought together for 40 years to victory in the Cold War. We are member states of NATO, sworn to defend each other if attacked. Now, France has been attacked by the hooligan terrorists of ISIS, and over 100 innocent people lay dead in Paris as a result. The dead were not caught in a crossfire in a war zone. They were not inadvertent casualties of shots directed at a military target. No, there were civilians who were just out on a weekend night. The left home for an enjoyable evening and ISIS gave them early death for no particular reason other than their nationality. President Hollande of France calls the ISIS attack "an act of war". Clearly, he is correct. This was an organized killing spree directed against the French nation. It is hard to imagine an explanation in which this is not an act of war.
Today, we got the formal response of the United States to this attack on France. President Obama spoke to the world through the media. Did he say that America will stand beside our French ally as required by the NATO treaty? Nope. Did he say that America will step up its attacks on ISIS in response to this outrage from ISIS? Nope. Did he say that America will reconsider its strategy for dealing with ISIS in view of the obvious failure of that strategy to deter attacks like the Paris slaughter, the bombing of the Russian civilian airliner over Egypt and the massive bombing in Lebanon, all terror attacks by ISIS in the last few weeks? Nope. Instead, Obama gave his usual post terror attack statement. He told the world that all is well and that we will continue with our strategy because it is working.
Imagine Winston Churchill becoming prime minister of the UK after the massive defeat of the British army and the hurried evacuation from Dunkirk going on the radio and instead of saying his memorable words "we will never surrender", telling the public that the strategy that had been followed is the correct one and that there would be no changes or even consideration of changes. That's the rough equivalent of Obama's statements today. Obama did not announce even a single act that would be taken today to reduce the chance of another slaughter by ISIS terrorists across the world. The hacker collective Anonymous announced that they would begin a cyber war against ISIS. It's a sad day when the hacker collective takes more concrete action against terrorists than the USA. We learn that at least one of the murderous thugs who carried out the Paris terror attacks was infiltrated into France posing as a "refugee" from Syria. In response, Obama tells America and the world that we will still take one hundred thousand such refugees because we have a strong program to vet these people. Is he kidding? I know that is not true. Obama knows that is not true. There is no way to vet the supposed refugees when there is no way to check with their home country to get their backgrounds. But Obama nevertheless tells the American people that the incompetent federal agency that cannot even keep illegals from waltzing across our southern border is going to weed out all the terrorists who try to enter America posing as a refugee.
Worse still than Obama's refusal to recognize the reality of the situation and to provide some American leadership, is the response from Hillary Clinton who is the likely candidate of the Democrats to be the next president. On Saturday night, just hours after the massive ISIS attack, Hillary would not even agree to call the perpetrators Islamic terrorists. Hillary is afraid of offending someone, although I wonder who. ISIS calls itself Islamic, but Hillary cannot? Really?
So the world watches, and, in particular, ISIS watches. The world's greatest power is led by a man who won't even recognize the threat we face. The woman who is the likely candidate of one of the two major parties won't even properly identify the perpetrators of these horrors. The world will not respond with solidarity to confront ISIS in response to non-existent American leadership. No, the terrorists know that they are winning. They are using the idiotic foibles of the PC left against America. How many more innocent people must die before someone in the White House wakes up to the horror that is happening?
