Weekend at Bernie's III

In the movie Weekend at Bernie's and the unfortunate sequel, the central plot device was that two guys find their boss, Bernie, dead but have to pretend he's still alive in order to escape.  It now appears that the Democrats supporting Bernie Sanders' run for president are in much the same position.  Sanders' candidacy is dead, but they are all pretending that it is not.  Sadly for them, however, the zombie Bernie Sanders is doing all he can to guarantee that his candidacy is done.

Two days ago, Sanders gave a speech explaining his "democratic socialism" that forms the basis of his campaign.  After proudly proclaiming for months that he is a socialist, Sanders kept the name but walked away from the substance.  After all, the single most important part of socialism is that the state owns the means of production in society.  Bernie told his audience that he does not want to take control of the means of production across the country.  In other words, he's a non-socialist socialist.

Think of it this way:  suppose Pope Francis gave a speech in which he announced that he no longer accepted the idea that Jesus is divine.  That would make him a non-Christian Catholic.  Were Queen Elizabeth of the UK to announce that she no longer accepted the idea of a monarch as head of state, she would be a non-monarchist monarch.  Sanders' rejection of public ownership of the means of production makes him a non-socialist socialist.  Perhaps a better term to describe the Vermont senator is that he is a FRAUD.

As his supporters come to understand that Bernie has been spouting nonsense for months by claiming to support something as the central tenet of his campaign that he is now renouncing, the true death will come to the Sanders' campaign.
