There's a big move afoot on the left to "investigate" Exxon for "misleading" the public about climate change. The New York Attorney General has already started an investigation. Hillary Clinton now supports a federal investigation as well. Mrs. Clinton's spokesperson says that her support for the investigation has nothing to do with the fact that Exxon withdrew as a sponsor this year of one of the Clinton Foundation's annual meetings. (You can decide if that is just a coincidence.) The idea, however, that there is any legal basis for such an investigation is ridiculous.
Let's be clear. I think global warming or climate change or whatever you call it is a discredited theory. The data does not support it. The computer models that predicted it have been unable to even come close for the last two decades. Except for the leftists who like climate change as a justification to impose all sorts of burdens on private enterprise and the scientists who live off of grants to "study" climate change, there is no support for the theory anymore. The truth has a way of destroying false theories. So, did I just mislead you in a way that makes me criminally liable? Nope. I told you my true opinion and used only true facts. What is phony, however, is the idea that man made climate change exists. I can say all these things, even if Hillary Clinton does not like them, because in America we have the right of free speech.
An investigation into Exxon, however, would be a clear violation of the right of Exxon and its employees to such free speech. We know from recent Supreme Court cases that both people and corporations have the right to free speech. (That's another place where the lefties go ballistic, but that's another story.) Using the levers of government power to shut up Exxon is a violation of the rights of that company and its employees. Hopefully, the board of Exxon will fight this nonsense in federal court. The battle may go to the Supreme Court, but Exxon will win.
Hillary Clinton knows the law on this point. Her support for this investigation is just another manifestation of her willingness to do anything either legal or illegal (like this) to win the White House. Hillary and her dishonest tactics needs to be soundly rejected.
