Another Lie About the Benghazi Attack

After the terrorist attack on the US consulate in Benghazi Libya in 2012, the American people were told that no help was sent by the military because time and distance prevented dispatching any meaningful assistance.  The statements about why no help was sent were never fully accepted since some of the military/CIA people in Libya said that they had been told to "stand down" when they were getting ready to make the trip to Benghazi to rescue those under attack.  Nevertheless, in various statements, the White House, Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta repeated general versions of the excuse about why no help was sent, namely that there was no meaningful help that could be sent.

Now, as reported in the news, an email from the chief of staff of the Secretary of Defense to the leadership of the State Department sent shortly after the start of the Benghazi attack has surfaced.  Here, in part, is what Jeremy Bash had to say at that time:

“I just tried you on the phone but you were all in with S [apparent reference to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton].  After consulting with General Dempsey, General Ham and the Joint Staff, we have identified the forces that could move to Benghazi. They are spinning up as we speak.”

So there were indeed forces that could have been sent to Benghazi and they were prepared to go once they got the order.  That was more than six hours prior to the deaths of half of those who died in the Benghazi attacks.  There was help that could have been sent, but the Americans in Benghazi were left to suffer their fate without help.  They were ignored by Obama, Clinton and Panetta.

The failure of Obama, Clinton and Panetta to send help to these brave Americans under attack is despicable.  It shows their inability to take needed actions when lives were at stake.  No doubt they did not want to move until they could take some polls and run some focus groups.
