The People Speak

Since the San Bernardino terror attack, we have seen a variety of responses from president Obama.  First, he went off on a tear about gun control before anyone even knew who had committed the atrocity or why.  Then he was mostly silent.  Then he went with a speech to the nation which focused on gun control and combatting anti-Moslem prejudice (as if that were somehow related to the attack).  The question that many have been wondering about, however, is how are the American people reacting to Obama's response.

We now have something of an answer to that question in the form of poll results.  Rasmussen polls people every day on their approval or disapproval of Obama's performance.  As of the day of the attack, the poll showed Obama with a slight edge (50% approval and 49% disapproval).  However, with the continued changes to Obama's response but with no new strategy or even explanation of how the present strategy will work being offered, Obama's numbers have headed south.  In the days since the attack, the margin of people disapproving of Obama's performance has grown as follows:  1, 3, 5, 9, 9, and 12.  As of today, the number disapproving of Obama's job performance is the highest in more than 16 months.  Obama's speech has done nothing to stop the decline in his numbers.

The polling is not surprising.  Most Americans want to have a leader who is more concerned about the nation's safety than about political correctness as well as one who is willing to change strategies when it becomes clear that the present strategy has not worked.  Obama fails on both counts and even a casual observer can recognize that.

The media is transfixed today by Donald Trump's latest showboating blast about Moslem immigration into the USA.  Not so, however, the American people.  They remain focused on the safety of the nation and its people.  Unless these poll numbers flip the other way quickly, expect to see Obama announce some new policy change regarding ISIS.  It may just be another of Obama's half truths about what will be done, but it will be coming nevertheless.  If Obama's numbers go any lower for any period of time, Obama won't even be able to claim the loyalty of Democrats in Congress much longer.  You know the old saying about Democrats leaving a sinking ship.
