The Truth Is Seeping Into the Bubble

For at least the last decade, nothing that happens in this country or the world is covered by the mainstream media without putting the spin of the liberal talking points on it.  We saw that during the San Bernardino massacre when the media reflexively went to "gun control" as the subject of discussion at a point when we knew literally nothing about the perpetrators of the attack or how they got their weapons.  We also saw that in the avalanche of Democrats and media that ran to "shame" those Republicans who said that their thought and prayers were with the victims and their families; many mocked the idea of asking God for help.  There's no point in rehashing just how off base these attacks were; by now those are self-evident truths.  What is interesting is that the truth is starting to seep into the liberal government/media bubble.

This morning I read a column by Froma Harrop.  Ms. Harrop is a member in good standing of the liberal media for whom the "news" of the day is a repetition of Democrat talking points.  That's why today's column is important.  Harrop points out the silliness of the left conflating gun control with a terrorist attack and also justifying the safety of admitting families of Syrian refugees when the San Bernardino attack was carried out by just such a family.

The idea that a card carrying member of the liberal mainstream media is criticizing today's Democrat talking points is important.  No, it doesn't mean that Harrop is about to become a conservative.  It does, however, reveal that the bankruptcy of the talking points is so evident even to the true believers in the bubble that they are not willing to repeat them and look foolish.

It's important to point out that most of the media members who repeat the talking points each day have not changed their practice.  Another column this morning from Eugene Robinson does just that.  Robinson actually praises the speech given by president Obama on Sunday evening.  The speech offered no change in strategy, and, indeed, nothing new with regard to terror.  It did not even recognize the fear prevailing across this country or seek to comfort those who are afraid.  Instead, Obama actually went back to gun control as a subject when we all know that the gun laws Obama wants would not have stopped or even changed the San Bernardino attack.  The bankruptcy of this approach, however, has even seeped into the daily talking points themselves.  You can see it in Robinson's opening paragraph:

"A cancer that has no immediate cure" was not the most soothing metaphor President Obama could have chosen, but it was the most honest. He has no idea how to prevent another terrorist attack like the one in San Bernardino -- and neither does anyone else, including his Republican critics.

Robinson and the Democrats have been reduced to arguing that while Obama "has no idea how to prevent another terrorist attack", neither do his opponents.  Obviously, they haven't been listening to the opposition.  One thing that the Republican candidates don't lack is ideas with regard to how to stop terrorist attacks.

Last evening we watched Richard Engel on NBC Nightly News dissect Obama's speech point by point showing how each point either has already failed or does not work. I was amazed to see this as no one on that news program has made statements critical of Obama that I can recall.
