Do They Think Before The Talk?

Very often of late, some of the more progressive leaders around the world say things that can only be described as crazy.  I'm not talking about the usual nonsense that spews from the left.  We have always gotten that on a non-stop basis.  For example, the first response of mayor DeBlasio of NYC to the San Bernardino massacre has been to go to a mosque in Queens to tell the local Islamic community "I have your back!"  One might have expected some move to express sympathy with the victims of the terrorist attack, but no, the mayor ran to express solidarity with the local Moslems.  Anyone who watches the left can understand this; it's more important for the mayor to be perceived as someone who is against Islamophobia (which may or may not actually exist in the USA) than to worry about some dead people killed by terrorists in California.  Believe it or not, that is standard behavior for the left.  What I am talking about here is a batch of statements that go beyond the usual idiocy into the realm of crazy.

A good example comes from the foreign minister of Sweden, Margot Wallstrom.  As is the case with many progressives, Wallstrom is opposed to Israel and supports the Palestinians because they are "victims".  Two days ago, however, Wallstrom complained that the Israelis were improperly killing the terrorists who have been launching attacks on innocent Israeli civilians.  Think about that.  The Swedish equivalent of our secretary of state is saying that when soldiers, police or ordinary citizens shoot a terrorist who is trying to kill an innocent civilian it is wrong.  Wallstrom called it "extrajudicial execution".  Put that in the context of San Bernardino.  The way Wallstrom looks at it, had a security guard at the Christmas party that the terrorists targeted managed to shoot the terrorist couple and kill them thereby saving the lives of up to 14 innocent people, the guard would be acting incorrectly.  It would not matter that this is self defense; it would be an "extrajudicial execution".  Given Wallstrom's strong anti-Israel bias, it is not surprising that she would criticize anything that the Israelis do.  Still, one does have to wonder about a senior leader of Sweden saying something this crazy.  One does wonder how Wallstrom would react if terrorists tried to assassinate her and her guards decided not to shoot back because they lacked a full judicial authority.

It's not just the Swedes who say things like this.  Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the British Labour Party, holds very similar views.  After the Paris attacks, the British prime minister, David Cameron, issued orders to police that they were to shoot to kill terrorists should any situation similar to the Paris attacks arise in the UK.  Corbyn immediately criticized that move and said that it was wrong to kill the terrorists.  He also blamed to Paris attacks on things that both the UK and France had done.  In many ways, what he said was like John Kerry's comments that the Charlie Hebdo terror attack was "legitimate" or that it had an understandable "rationale".  Terrorists were angry at what had been said or done, so for Corbyn and Kerry it is understandable that the terrorists killed people at random to express that anger.  It's just crazy talk.

Of course, the winner in this contest of idiotic statements has to be president Obama.  Sometimes, he says things that are just stupid or careless.  Actually, let me amend that to say that Obama OFTEN makes such statements.  Just yesterday he told the country that there was no proof that San Bernardino was a terrorist attack less than an hour before the FBI announced that it was such an attack.  Obama clearly had access to the information gathered by the FBI during the hours after the attack, but apparently the president could not be bothered to read it.  In truth, all Obama had to do was to turn on the TV and watch any of the cable news channels for five minutes to understand that everyone knew that this was a terror attack.  Who knows; maybe he was on the golf course and missed it.  Or maybe there was some major crisis regarding global warming.  And speaking of global warming, I have to mention Obama's statement that the Paris conference on global warming (which failed to come to any agreement) was the "best rebuke" to the ISIS terrorists.  One has to wonder just how often Obama actually perceives reality.

Eighty years ago, the Soviets coined a description of the progressive leftists in the West and the things that these leftists would say and do.  The Soviets called them "useful idiots".  For Stalin and his totalitarian thugs in the Soviet Union, it was clear that while the things said by the Western leftists were stupid or, to use their phrase, idiotic, the disruption and delay that these idiots caused to a coherent and rational response by the West to confront the threat facing the West was exceedingly useful.  We have a new threat, Islamic terrorism, but the same useful idiots are still cause the same disruption and delay.  Sadly for us, however, we actually have one of the useful idiots in the White House.
