The End of Trump

Donald Trump put out a proposal today to ban all Moslems from entering the USA.  That means no immigrants and no visitors.  Nothing is specified about allowing citizens who go abroad to return to the USA.

I have not seen an actual release from the Trump campaign, only news reports like this one that report on what the campaign released.  Assuming this story is correct, it should be the end of any chance that Trump had to be president.  It is one thing for questions to be raised about the admission of supposed Syrian refugees who cannot be vetted; letting them in without any actual proof of who they are is playing Russian roulette.  (Should we call it ISIS roulette?)  Closing our borders to all Moslems worldwide is an entirely different matter.  Will all those from Indonesia and Bangldesh be barred?  How about members of allied military forces like Jordan?  Are they to be barred too?  What if the leader of our allies in the fight against ISIS, the Kurds, wants to come to Washington for a meeting?  Trump would keep him out too?  How will Moslems worldwide react to the idea that Trump wants to bar their entry into this country?

Trump's proposal is idiotic.  He didn't even bother to think it through before he issued it.  It's just a knee jerk reaction, and a stupid one at that.

Trump has gotten far in this race by ignoring the requirements of political correctness.  He has also been unafraid of saying what he actually thinks.  After seven years of Obama and endless years of listening to the mainstream media, Trump was a breath of fresh air and many supported him as a result.  Saying what you think, however, is not the only requirement for being a good president.  One also has to have good ideas.  Banning the entry of Moslems is clearly not one of those good ideas.  It's not objectionable because it is politically incorrect; no one needs give a care about that.  No, it's objectionable because it is a really bad idea.  In one moment, Trump could validate every argument the ISIS makes that the West (including the USA) is at war with all of Islam.  By issuing this proposal with even bothering to think the matter through, Trump has demonstrated that he is not qualified to lead this nation.  Our president has to be wise enough and calm enough to make decisions based upon what is good for the nation and not upon the emotions of the moment.

Trump is so over.
