I don't usually watch The Five on Fox News, but happened to do so this evening. I was amazed by just how out of touch all five of them were. They started to talk about the response from Rush Limbaugh (and others in talk radio) to Donald Trump's attack on Ted Cruz. Trump said that Cruz did not have the temperament to be president. Trump said the way Cruz dealt with others in the senate would prevent anything from getting accomplished if Cruz were president. Trump specifically pointed to Cruz calling another senator a "liar" as an example of this.
After the Trump attack, Limbaugh said that a true conservative would never attack Cruz in this way.
After recounting this, the hosts of The Five proceeded to say that they did not understand why it was off limits for Trump to attack Cruz but not others. They each made clear that they did not have a clue what Limbaugh had actually said.
Here's the deal: Cruz called senator McConnell, the senate majority leader, a liar after McConnell gave in and accepted what president Obama wanted rather than to even allow the GOP position to be subject to a vote. Cruz said that he had been promised that a vote would be taken and that McConnell had lied to him. In other words, Cruz was pushing for the conservative Republican position to be adopted and McConnell was surrendering to the liberal Democrat position. That is why Limbaugh thought that a true conservative would not attack Cruz for this. It had nothing to do with Limbaugh favoring Cruz. It had nothing at all confusing about it. Indeed, if any of the hosts of The Five had bothered to listen or read Limbaugh's full comments (which might have taken 15 seconds), the meaning would have been clear. The same point was also made by Marc Levin on his show, and again it was clear there.
Sadly, the hosts of The Five blabbed on without understanding anything. What's the point of having a show containing commentary on the news if those offering the commentary don't bother to actually learn what that news is?
