Follow The Real Story

After the San Bernardino terror attack, we watched the media follow the story for a few days.  First, the mainstream media told us it was workplace violence, but that claim quickly became untenable.  Then it was a possible combination of terror attack:  workplace violence carried out by a terrorist.  Then it became a lone wolf terror attack.  By the time it was undeniable that this was an attack by a pair of terrorists who were part of an ISIS related group, the mainstream media was looking for something other to cover.  That's when Donald Trump stepped in with his comments on Moslem immigration.  Since Trump uttered those words, the coverage on the mainstream media has been nearly all Trump, all the time.  The media likes the Trump story because it gives them a cudgel to use against Republicans and because it allows them to promote their usual story line that the GOP is just a group of bigots.  The problem for America, however, is that the real story here is mostly being missed.  San Bernardino was a massive intelligence failure by president Obama and his people which is looking more and more like the result of political correctness.

Let's go back to what we now know.

1.  The terrorist, Syed Farook, was a radical Islamist, and he clearly held those views for many years.  His family knew of his views, although they still claim that they did not know he was planning terror attacks.  Supposedly, his mother lived in the same small house with Syed, his wife and child but had no idea Syed was amassing weapons and building pipe bombs in the garage.  Needless to say, the mother's claim is unlikely, particularly since the neighbors were suspicious and they weren't in the house.

2.  The female terrorist was also a radical Islamist, and she too held those views for many years.  She gained admittance into the USA on a so-called fiancé visa.  Despite her having affiliations with both schools and groups that are known to have strong ties to the Islamist community, and despite her having given easily verifiable false information to the American authorities on her vise application, she sailed right through the process.  In effect, she got no background check at all.  The government let this woman just come to America despite the obvious threat she presented.

3.  Once both were here, they were in contact with other radical Islamists who have been on the FBI radar repeatedly.  They also attended a mosque affiliated with groups that have supported terrorism.  Despite this, the terrorists were not being watched.  There was a total failure of intelligence.

4.  Three years ago, there were people in the Department of Homeland Security who were focused, among other things, on the mosque attended by the two terrorists.  DHS was developing information on those who attended that mosque to see if any had ties to terror groups.  Then word came down from higher up in the department that policy required the investigation to be dropped because it was akin to profiling against an Islamic group.  In other words, political correctness stopped that investigation.  We don't know for sure that continuation of the investigation would have prevented the San Bernardino attack, but we do know that Obama and his people took steps that made detection of the impending attack impossible.

5.  The two terrorists who took part in the actual attack are NOT the only people involved.  There is at least one other who purchased the weapons and who had planned other terror attacks with Farook in the past.  There are also those very disturbing reports from the neighbors that there were "groups" of men who met in the garage at the Farook house at night.  Most likely, they were building bombs or learning how to do so.  There is no other reason to hold gatherings in the garage.

6.  In the last two days, we have heard of two instances where a group of "middle eastern looking" men went into Walmart in Missouri and bought over 100 prepaid cellphones for cash.  This may turn out to be nothing, but it certainly seems like the precursor to more attacks.

Put all this together, and we know that there are terrorists in the USA and that the Obama administration has not only not found them but actually stopped investigations that might have done so.  It is the ultimate victory of political correctness over reality and safety.

I don't agree with Donald Trump and his position on immigration, but it is hardly the big story that ought to be followed by the media.  The mainstream media, however, is following the lead of Obama by sticking with politically correct nonsense instead of actually covering the story.

Hopefully, there will not be any more terror attacks, but that seems like wishful thinking.  Someone needs to be held accountable for the delusional belief that political correctness will work in stopping terror.
