Politics does not take a break in Washington, even at Christmas. In a major bit of political theater, the Obama administration "leaked" the plan that the Department of Homeland Security will be conducting "raids" to gather and deport people who entered the country illegally during the last two years. The raids supposedly will commence in January of 2016. Almost immediately, the plan for these raids was denounced by all the Democrat presidential candidates. That reaction went from Martin O'Malley who denounced "mindless deportations" that have to be stopped to that of Hillary Clinton whose spokesperson Xochitl Hinojosa said this:
"Hillary Clinton has real concerns about these reports, especially as families are coming together during this holiday season. She believes it is critical that everyone has a full and fair hearing, and that our country provides refuge to those that need it. And we should be guided by a spirit of humanity and generosity as we approach these issues."
Notice, of course, that Hillary's response made three points: 1) she employs a spokesperson who is obviously Mexican (another victory for diversity); 2) she is very concerned about these reports of upcoming raids; 3) as is the case with most things, she is not actually taking a position but wants to be seen to be sympathetic to those who may be deported.
Is there really anyone out there who believes that any of this is real? Think about it for a moment.
First, if DHS is really and seriously about to launch raids to gather and deport those here illegally, there is no way that the plan would be leaked. One does not warn the targets of such a raid ahead of time. That means that the so called leak is most likely intentional and the intended target is the media rather than the illegal aliens.
Second, timing the news of the impending raids just before Christmas means that discussion of these raids among Hispanic families is more likely. Someone at Christmas will have heard the report and will spread the news.
Third, the lightning quick response from the Democrat candidates means that they probably were forewarned. We have all watched the Clinton campaign respond to news in the past. There is usually a two or three day delay until the possible responses have been tested with focus groups and polling. This time, it took less than two hours. That means they were already prepared.
Fourth, is this just another way for the Democrats to reinforce the idea that they are the "protectors" of Hispanics? You know what will happen next, right? President Obama will return from his golfing in Hawaii and then a story will leak that Obama "stopped" the impending raids. Each of the potential Democrat candidates will have come out strongly against the raids and Obama will have prevented them.
Am I too cynical in believing this all to be political theater? Would the Democrats actually perpetrate a fraud and plant a phony story like this just for political gain? The answer is obviously yes. I won't even bother to list the great many lies told by Obama and Clinton and the other Democrats in just the last few years.
Let me put it this way: the raids that are supposedly coming would be nothing more than Obama enforcing the law as he is sworn to do. He hasn't done that for years, however. He's not about to start now.
