Marco Rubio For President

The 2016 election for president is perhaps the most important one of the last three decades.  During his years in office, president Obama has managed to grow the federal government to almost unimaginable size.  Obama has also put in place all manner of new regulations and laws which have slowed or prevented economic growth and pushed the middle income families across the country closer and closer to poverty.  When it came to foreign policy and national defense, Obama has focused on making political points rather than on keeping Americans safe or promoting our interests abroad.  Obama has also presided over the greatest increase in racial disharmony in my lifetime (all while preaching about the need for diversity and inclusiveness.)  Obama has also managed to undermine the ability of tens of millions of Americans to get healthcare; Obamacare may have marginally increased those with health insurance, but it also priced many with that insurance out of being able to pay for actually seeing the doctor. Even when it comes to basic social issues, Obama was unable to bring the country together; instead of increased harmony, we constantly see angry attacks from one group or another.

In choosing the next president, we need someone who can change the course on which the country has been heading.  We need someone with vision, someone who can lead, someone who does not operate by dividing America but who would rather united us.  We need someone who understands how the US economy works and what would help return it to robust growth.  We need someone who understands the threats that the USA and the American people are facing around the world and who is prepared to take action to protect this nation.  And we need someone who understands that government is not the solution to every problem or even to most problems.  We need a person who can bring back the American dream as a reality to the millions who have lost hope during the last years.  That person is senator Marco Rubio of Florida.

Senator Rubio is someone who will energetically work to make things better for all Americans.  As president Obama should have been inspiring for African Americans, senator Rubio will be an inspiration for Hispanics.  Rubio would be the first Hispanic president, another milestone in American history.  But Rubio's ethnic background is not what makes him our choice.  Even a few moments of listening to Rubio talk about our nation makes clear that he is very knowledgeable about national defense, foreign policy and the war on terror.  With all that is happening these days, we have to have a president who starts out on day one ready to go on that subject.  And we also need a president who is not afraid to take clear positions on these issues.  There are just too many life or death issues that we face for us to have a president who has to wait for poll numbers or focus group results before proceeding.  The president has to do what is RIGHT rather than what his political advisors tell him will be the most popular.  We've seen enough of a president like Obama who hides from reality instead of dealing with it.  Rubio meets this most important qualification.

Senator Rubio is also clearly someone who understands the economy and the need to restore the American dream.  Indeed, he has made it a centerpiece of his campaign.  The senator knows first hand how a poor immigrant couple can come to this country and through hard work make a better life for themselves and their children.  Every American deserves the opportunity to strive for a better life for their kids and a decent chance to actually achieve that goal.  The best way to have that happen is to restore the ability of individuals to start new businesses and to have a chance for success.  New businesses are the greatest generators of wealth across the country, and they are also the biggest creators of new jobs for many others.  Senator Rubio also understands that it is not enough to create new jobs if they are for burger flippers being paid minimum wage.  We need new businesses that will bring better, higher paying jobs to those looking for work.  He wants to roll back some of the most restrictive regulations that put the full burden of government on possible new businesses and prevent the creation of hundreds of thousands if not millions of them.

Senator Rubio has also shown during the campaign that he does not promote anger or divisiveness like Obama or some of the other candidates.  He understands that America is at its best when we all work together as Americans rather than against each other as rich vs. poor; young vs. old; left vs. right, etc.  Rubio can inspire new generations of Americans to accept the true genius of America in a way that the purveyors of the old tired lines of class warfare or race baiting simply cannot.  Unlike Hillary Clinton who sees Republicans as her "biggest enemy", senator Rubio understands that our enemies are overseas and not just those who hold a different political philosophy.

There are other Republican candidates who are clearly more qualified and ready to be president than Hillary Clinton and certainly than Bernie Sanders.  None of them, however, combines as many of the necessary characteristics needed for success as president as Senator Marco Rubio.  That is why Connecticut Comments endorsed Senator Rubio for president in 2016.  We strongly encourage all of you to work for his election and to vote for him when the time comes.
