Another Outrage in Syria

Today brings reports that the forces of Syrian dictator Assad have begun to use chemical weapons in the civil war again.  There was an attack on rebel positions in the Damascus suburbs by Assad forces that included the use of some sort of chemical agent.

For what it is worth, Assad agreed nearly a year ago to identify, neutralize and destroy all of Syria's chemical weapons.  Full destruction of the chemical stockpile was scheduled to have already been completed.  Instead of full destruction, the Syrian people get to witness further use of these weapons.

This latest event is just another slap in the face for president Obama.  Obama set the use of chemical weapons as a red line.  Obama ignored it when Assad forces used poison gas on fourteen occasions.  Only when the Assad forces made a massive chemical strike and rebels were able to take a video of the aftermath and release it to the world was Obama actually moved to respond.  Then Obama managed to bungle the response so badly that he was forced to agree to a plan put forth by Russian president Putin that called for Syria to supposedly destroy the chemical weapons on a strict timetable (in exchange for America taking no action that might drive the murderer Assad from power).  That is the agreement that Assad has already ignored.

Since the assault by Assad on the Syrian people began nearly three years ago, roughly 175,000 have been killed.  Millions are homeless or are refugees in foreign lands.  Meanwhile, Obama is attending more fundraisers.  I guess Obama figures that if he can attend fundraisers when American servicemen are killed at Fort Hood without much outrage from the American people, he can do the same when Syria uses chemical weapons to kill additional people there.
