A Good Solution -- A Real Surprise

First Lady Michelle Obama has cancelled her speech at the Topeka, Kansas high school graduation ceremonies after more than a thousand students signed a petition asking that the invitation for her to speak be cancelled since her presence would upstage the achievements of the graduating seniors and limit availability of tickets to the event.  Instead, some days after the graduation, Obama will come to speak in Topeka with tickets being given to the graduates and their families.  In this way, the graduates have their day and later, Obama speaks.  It is a sensible and a good solution.

I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised that this compromise was reached.  I just expected the usual confrontation between unhappy students and their families on the one side and Obama and her supporters (including the media) on the other side.  I was waiting for the graduating seniors to be called racist because they wanted to be able to have their families attend the ceremony.

Congratulations to both sides for acting reasonably.  Maybe we can get more people to try this.  Who know!  They might like it.

It would have been truly ignorant if she had not canceled when no one wanted HER.
