One of the favorite issues of president Obama and the progressives is the requirement that voters present photo IDs at the polls. This requirement has been attacked as an attack on minority voting even though every person needs the ID, not just minorities. It has been attacked as unfair and outrageous even though polls show that roughly 70% of Americans support it. It has been attacked as unconstitutional even though the Supreme Court has already ruled to the contrary. It has been attacked as unnecessary since there are no instances of actual voter fraud even though a recent review of voters in North Carolina found that over 30,000 were registered in other states as well as North Carolina and further that about 1000 had voted in both states. And let's not forget the Democrat poll worker in Ohio who was arrested for voting multiple times herself. Or the 200 voters in North Carolina who were found to have voted after death.
The truth has always been that this issue is a phony one used by the left to try to increase the minority turnout in elections. Obama would deny that characterization and instead say that it is an issue of civil rights. After all, according to the progressives, it is minority voters who more often lack the photo ID cards needed to vote. But now we have irrefutable proof that this issue is phony. Obama has an easy way to prevent any limit on minority voting and he is not taking it. Instead he is continuing to scream about the photo ID laws.
Obama's cure for the photo ID problem was the idea of Andrew Young, the former mayor of Atlanta and American ambassador to the UN. His solution is a simple one: the president can issue an executive order to change the nature of Social Security cards to include photos. Remember, by law every American over the age of one has to have a Social Security number and card. That's EVERYBODY! Adding a photo to the card would mean that every American would have a photo ID. Of course, that would leave out illegal aliens, but supposedly they cannot vote. With one use of his pen, Obama could solve the photo ID problem. Sure, it would probably cost a few hundred million dollars to get the cards changed, but think of all those new government employees Obama could hire. But no, Obama has not solved the problem and he is not likely to do so. It would deprive the Democrats of this phony issue and it might stop some of the big city machines like Chicago or Philadelphia from bringing out their Democrat voters from the local cemeteries.
