CBS Did Not Take Long --- CNN Does Not Have Long

CBS announced today that it will be Colbert replacing Letterman next year.  Yawn.

It will be interesting to see if Colbert as himself rather than as the character he plays on Comedy Central will be able to hold an audience.  My guess is that the answer is no.  Of course, I am not in the target demographic that CBS seeks for the new show.  Maybe Colbert will surprise me.

Meanwhile, CNN also had an announcement today.  It unveiled its "new" prime time schedule.  CNN is moving away from reporting the news.  If there was any doubt on that point, you need only consider the new show in which reporters will explore the archeological basis for the story of Jesus.

My guess here is that CNN will also fail in its new format.  The network has kept enough of its old shows to bore anyone tuning in.  Further, the few people who still come to CNN for news will tune it out when the new shows starts.  The truth is that CNN is moving towards a strange amalgamation of typical public access programming and weak news presentations.
