They Still Don't Get It

There's an article this morning from Julie Pace of the AP reporting on how the Asian countries are all seeking assurances from president Obama with regard to their territorial disputes with China.  For example, Japan has its dispute over the Senkaku Islands and the Philippines, Vietnam and other countries have similar disputes regarding islands further south.  For the most part, the issue centers around underwater energy deposits and which country will control their development.  The funny thing is that either these countries actually think that a word from Obama will matter or the AP still thinks it does.

Watching president Obama for the last five and a half years, the world has come to understand that he "talks" but he never "does".  Think about it.  "Assad must go" was nice to hear but it changed to "nevermind" once Assad actually crossed the red line to use chemical weapons.  "There will be no Iranian nukes" morphed into "what difference does it make" once action was required to achieve a result.  "Russia must not invade Crimea" moved on to "there's nothing we can do militarily" to "we are adopting strong sanctions" to "there's nothing we can do at all" and finally to "Russia must not invade the rest of Ukraine".  There's more, but these would be on the list of Obama's greatest misses.

It makes me wonder why the AP is still writing about statements made by Obama.  No one believes them.  Fully 85% of the American people say that Obama lies to them about important issues; they only disagree on the frequency of the lies, not their existence.  The leaders of the rest of the world probably would come in at higher than 85% on the same question.  Indeed, assuming it was a secret vote where one's position could not be disclosed, the likely result of a poll of world leaders would be approximately 100%.  No one believes Obama.

Someone should tell the AP.
