Booker Slips In The Polls

It probably means nothing, but the latest Quinnipiac poll in the New Jersey senate race shows Cory Booker falling to only a 12% lead over his Republican opponent.  Booker still has over 50% in the poll.  The special election is only three weeks away, so it remains difficult to imagine that Booker can be beaten; nevertheless, last week it was impossible to imagine, so "difficult" is a major improvement.

Booker has been battered by all sorts of revelations.  He got huge payments from his old lawfirm that he had on the Newark payroll.  He got over a million dollar investment for supposedly being part of a start up company for which he supposedly did nothing.  Nothing raises suspicion like a mayor getting a million dollars for "nothing".  His campaign stories about his past turned out to be not just exaggerations but completely phony.  His campaign sent people to harass and threaten his opponent and the whole thing was caught on video.

New Jersey remains New Jersey.  Remember that the last senate election saw New Jersey re-elect Bob Menendez who was accused of going abroad to have sex with underage prostitutes.  All of the stuff that is hitting Booker may still have no major effect on the election.  Nevertheless, this race is suddenly becoming interesting.
