Secretary of State John Kerry told the press after his first session with the Russia foreign minister that there would be "no peace for Syria if the talks fail". That is true, but it is a half truth of the sort that Kerry seems to love. Kerry failed to point out that there would be "no peace for Syria if the talks succeed."
Let's be completely honest, a skill that Kerry has not managed to master. Whether or not the chemical weapons of the Assad regime are partially destroyed due to the current talks, the fight between the rebels and the Assad forces will go on, thousands more people will die, tens of thousands more will be injured and hundreds of thousands more will become refugees. America has made clear that it will do nothing about continued fighting with conventional weapons.
