When Reason Departs For Political Purposes

Terry McAuliffe, the Democrat candidate for governor of Virginia, is best known in political circles as a close friend and ally of the Clintons.  McAuliffe is supposed to have impeccable political skills, but today brings news of something that ought to give pause to those who believe that reputation.  McAuliffe was caught on video telling a group that if he is elected governor he will waive the need for abortion clinics to meet the requirements of the Board of Health.  Think about that one.  McAuliffe is showing his commitment to abortion by telling folks that he will take away the requirement that these surgical centers be clean, antiseptic, properly ventilated, and safe.  He does not want to be sure that the clinics meet the minimum standards for medical facilities set by the state itself.

With the conviction of Kermit Gosnell for the killings of infants at his pigsty of a clinic in Philadelphia, many pro-choice groups are now concerned that basic health and cleanliness requirements will be used again abortion clinics.  Clearly, the proper response is to make sure that the clinics comply with the regulations.  McAuliffe, however, is so concerned that he show his fealty to the pro-choice groups, that he wants to get rid of the health regulations rather than have the clinics cleaned up so that they comply.

This may pass without much notice, but I doubt it.
