There is Hope

In yesterday's primary election in New York City, both disgraced former office holders lost.  Anthony Weiner whose naked tweets to women other than his wife forced him out of Congress lost big.  He got only 5% of the vote among Democrats voting in the mayoral primary.  That should send him back to his cell phone for the rest of his life.  Eliot Spitzer whose visits to high priced hookers made with state money paying for his trips lost the primary for Comptroller.  Spitzer who, unlike Weiner, did not come across as currently psychotic, still lost out to an underfunded and downright dull opponent in the primary.  There were a sufficient number of New York Democrats who rejected Spitzer despite his much higher name recognition and ubiquitous campaign commercials.

That means that even in New York among Democrats, people still realize that it does not make sense to reward those who have previously violated the public's trust.

Having said that, of course, let's not forget that the winner of the Democrat primary for mayor, Bill diBlasio won that election on the basis of a campaign that emphasized that he has an African American wife and biracial children.  It is hardly the best reason to select a mayor, but then again, it is still New York.
