Lining Up For Disaster

Most of you, by now, know that president Obama is going to deliver a speech to the nation next Tuesday evening.  While the idea of yet another address from Obama is not something I enjoy, I do think that he has to try this time to tell the American people why it is important for us to strike in Syria, what the goal of those strikes would be, what the nature of the strikes would be (in general only) and how he plans to deal with the aftermath of such a strike.  Absent that detailed outline from the president, it seems all but certain that the resolution to authorize the strike will fail in Congress.

I wonder, however, which genius in Washington decided that Tuesday was the right day for the speech.  Tuesday is September 10th.  While Obama is speaking to the nation, it will already be September 11th in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.  It will already be the day that the terror groups all want to use to hit American targets around the world.  And, if the temptation to hit Americans was not already big enough for the terror groups that day, Obama is reinforcing that temptation by allowing the terrorists to strike in seeming response to his speech on Syria.  Just imagine the impact if Obama gives an impassioned plea for action and this is followed within an hour or two with a terror strike on some American target in Iraq.

President Obama has waited for two and a half years to respond to the brutality of the Assad regime in Syria.  He waited for over 120,000 people to die before he decided it was time to act.  Obama waited through 15 separate chemical attacks by the Assad forces until the 16th moved Obama to action.  Clearly, he could have waited another day or so for his speech.  But no, now suddenly Obama has to schedule his speech so that it can line up for a potential disaster.

Unbelievable!
