I was just looking at some headlines that trumpet the "defeat" of Texas senator Ted Cruz because the Senate passed a continuing resolution to fund the government for another two months. It always surprises me just how dense the media can be. They missed the whole point of the exercise. No one expected that the senate would defeat a measure to fund the government, NO ONE. Cruz knew that he would not win; it was the battle and not the end result that was important to him. Cruz made a number of important points; let's break them down to just a few:
1. Obamacare is bad for the country.
2. He and many other Republicans are fighting to stop Obamacare and the Democrats want it to go ahead.
3. Every Democrat in the Senate has voted once again for Obamacare while every Republican in the Senate has voted against it.
4. The Democrats have shown themselves to be unreasonable and unwilling to negotiate. When you announce your refusal to negotiate and insist that your opponents are "terrorists", "arsonists" and "extortionists" for demanding negotiations, the talking points will not work with the American people. (Let's change that to most of the American people.)
It will be interesting to see what the House does now.
