American politicians have always pushed the truth for effect. The lies that were told, however, had some measure of truth about them. That seems to have changed to a great extent at least for the Democrats in Washington. Here are just two examples:
Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the chair of the Democrat National Committee and a congressman from Florida. She also seems pathologically unable to tell the truth. Just this week, she was asked for her opinion of the recall election in Colorado in which two Democrat state senators were removed from office because of their votes in favor of gun control. Wasserman Schultz said the outcome was the result of "voter suppression pure and simple." Now, remember this: Colorado has a Democrat governor, the state legislature is totally controlled by the Democrats, the state election offices are held by Democrats, and the two districts where the elections were held are heavily Democrat. So Wasserman Schultz must be blaming Democrats for suppressing the votes for their fellow Democrats. Does this mean that Debbie is delusional? He response is that there were no mail in ballots allowed ahead of election day for the recall. And how did that come about? The Colorado election code does not provide for such early voting in recall elections. So the head of the DNC is out there yelling about voter suppression when all that happened is that the law was followed, and that is the law which has been in place for decades. The truth is that Wasserman Schultz just cannot admit in public that the people in these Democrat districts in Colorado did not like the passage of new gun control laws.
Nancy Pelosi just told America that the outcome so far in Syria has been a great victory for president Obama. Now Pelosi has demonstrated repeatedly that she will say anything, but this? Really? Vladimir Putin has done everything but steal the furniture out of the Oval Office. Obama looks like a disorganized amateur who has no clue what is going on. (Of course, that may be because Obama is a disorganized amateur with no clue what is going on, but I digress.) This has been a complete defeat for Obama, but Pelosi calls it a victory. Actually, Pelosi is just telling lies. I do not have a high opinion of Pelosi, but I am still sure that she knows that this has been a great defeat for Obama and for the USA. It is a truth that she cannot bring herself to utter.
