Gearing Up For Failure

The New York Times has published a prominent article discussing the growing disenchantment among Democrats in Congress with president Obama.  It seems that there is a lot of grumbling in the Democrat party and many are either voting against the president initiatives or threatening to do so, according to the Times.  Of course, since the article is in the Times, it goes on at length to tell us that Obama is still doing better than president Bush did at this point in his term and that the Republicans are blocking Obama's agenda, not the Democrats.

The key to the article, however, is in the headline.  It begins with "Budget Battle Looming".  The Times is warning readers that this lack of discipline among the Democrats may well affect the upcoming dispute regarding the budget.  The truth is that this is really a warning that the current effort to delay Obamacare for a year or two may well pass with sizeable Democrat support.  It is hard to justify a policy that delays the implementation of Obamacare for big business and other well connected groups, but still forces average individuals (without lobbyists) to go ahead with meeting the mandates of the healthcare plan.  No matter what the reality, Democrats do not like to actually be seen blatantly supporting the wealthy and powerful over the average folks.  Further, with recent polling showing that Obamacare is incredibly unpopular and vast support for delaying its start, the Democrat firewall against any delay may well be crumbling.  After all, a vote to delay is one for fairness, and more important it is not a vote to repeal....................yet.
