French police arrested a man who had parked his car near to the Notre Dame Cathedral in the middle of Paris today. The car was filled with explosive gas canisters. Police said that this appeared to be a test run for a future attack. Fortunately, the man was being watched by police as a possible member of a terrorist group (ISIS).
It's worth noting that by blowing up this car, there could have been extraordinarily high casualties. The area around Notre Dame is a favorite with tourists. The cathedral is a major symbol of Christianity in France. Destroying or damaging the cathedral while killing hundreds would be a terrible victory for the terrorists.
The French police are to be congratulated for their success in stopping this from happening.
It's also worth noting that initial word is that the attacker has been identified by some sources as a Syrian refugee. There is no official confirmation yet, but it should give us all pause that yet another Syrian "refugee" turns out to be a terrorist.
