As I write this, there's a cease fire in place between the terrorists in Gaza and the Israelis. In the fighting over the weekend, Israel changed its tactics. The fighting began with major rocket barrages fired from Gaza into Israel. Some got through the Iron Dome system defense and cause damages and casualties inside Israel. The Israeli response was quick and strong. It included strikes on hundreds of military targets across Gaza. There was one big change, however. Israel is now considering the leadership of Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror groups as targets in these responses. The Israelis took out the equivalent of the head of finance for Hamas. They also took out the homes of many of the Islamic Jihad leadership. These strikes on the homes didn't kill the Islamic Jihad leaders or their families. They had all fled once the news was clear that their homes might be targeted. Nevertheless, these strikes gave a clear message to the terrorist leadership that they were now in the crosshairs. That is why the terrorists asked for a cease fire.
These sorts of military exchanges are terrible things. No one is benefitted. Hopefully, the new Israeli policy will work as a deterrent against a resumption of hostilities.
