Yesterday, I wrote about the possibility of Iranian action against the USA. This morning brings news of an attack on two Saudi oil tankers near Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. The details are still sketchy, but the Saudis call the attacks "sabotage". Almost immediately, the Iranians denounced the attacks. It's hard to tell if the too-quick Iranian response was given so as to try to avoid responsibility for something they did or for something they didn't do. In the next day, we should get much more information about what happened. If this turns out to be an Iranian attack through proxy forces, I expect there to be serious consequences. No matter who did this, however, it is a very bad development.
