Prime minister Scott Morrison and his party have held on in a close election in Australia. The results were expected according to pre-election polls to be major defeat for Morrison. Once again, another country found that polls don't really mean all that much.
The victory for Morrison and his party came as areas with sluggish economic growth voted strongly for the PM rather than for his Labor opponent who wanted to raise taxes and follow the usual semi-socialist economic model used by Labor in the past. It was a vote for growth rather than for the old platitudes of class warfare.
As far as the US is concerned, the Morrison victory is a plus since he is such a good ally. Australia, however, has been a close ally for many decades, so the difference as far as America is concerned one of degree, not of a big change.
Congratulations to Prime Minister Morrison and his party.
