There was a vigil held in Colorado to honor the memory of the student killed in the high school shooting. It was filled with mostly students from the affected school. After a few speeches, however, nearly all of the students walked out of the "vigil" in protest against the event being politicized. Colorado senator Benett started ranting about gun control and then he was followed by another Democrat politician who did the same. At that point, the students started walking out. Pretty quickly, the vast majority were gone. They were upset that an event to honor and remember their classmate who died trying to save others was being turned into a gun control rally.
The Democrats always seem to do this. Most famously, in 2002, Minnesota senator Paul Wellstone died in the middle of that year's political campaigns. A memorial was held to honor Wellstone's memory and the assorted Democrat politicians turned it into a campaign rally. The consensus at the time was that by being so disrespectful to the purpose of the event, the Democrats managed to turn off huge numbers of Americans who voted for the Republicans.
It's strange that the Democrats never seem to get the idea that a memorial is not a good place to hold a campaign rally.
