So Democrats Are Frustrated?

According to media reports "most" House Democrats are frustrated that 1) their investigations into Trump/Russia collusion and related matters are stalled, 2) the likelihood of testimony from Robert Mueller is slim, 3) the likelihood of testimony from former White House Counsel and other administration officials is very low, and 4) the House Democrat leadership is not pushing impeachment.  The real question is what did they think was going to happen.

The investigations are stalled.  Surprise!  America just went through a two year investigation of all this by the Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team.  The White House cooperated with Mueller.  Every witness with whom they wanted to speak was given to them.  For example, the then White House Counsel spent 30 hours being interviewed by the Mueller team.  All the documents were turned over.  The only sticky situation came when Mueller wanted to interview the President, and that was resolved with and interview by written questions.  And in the end, Mueller cleared the President and his campaign of any collusion with the Russians and also concluded that he did not have the evidence to bring charges of obstruction of justice.  That should have been case closed!

Instead, the House Dems are busy trying to resurrect the investigation and continue it forever.  President Trump has rightly decided not to cooperate with this additional investigation into the same thing, especially since it is being done only for political purposes.  Thus, Trump is asserting executive privilege and not allowing his present or former staff to testify.  He is likely to assert attorney client privilege if the White House counsel ever does get to testify.  The Dems knew this was coming; they shouldn't be surprised.

And Mueller isn't testifying.  That too shouldn't surprise the Dems.  The decision by Mueller is one he is making himself.  He doesn't want to go before the House and tell them that he has nothing additional besides what is in his report.  He knows that the hope of the House Dems is that he would come forward and say that the Attorney General or the President somehow got him to suppress damaging information that didn't make its way in the Mueller Report.  That testimony won't happen, though, because those facts didn't happen.  Mueller made his report on his own terms; he put out his worst case scenario for Trump, and it exonerated Trump of wrongdoing.  Mueller knows that if he comes and testifies truthfully to this, the Dem attack machine and its media allies will start attacking him as a tool of the administration.  He doesn't want to go through that.  Again, surprise!

White House staff isn't testifying either.  That's just the result of executive privilege.  Trump now is taking the same position that Obama took when Congress tried to question his staff about some of the actual scandals which occurred during his term in office.  It's the normal course followed by Presidents.  Surprise!

But the best bit is that Dems are frustrated that Pelosi and company won't move ahead with impeachment.  That decision is an obvious one.  The polls are strongly against it.  Most likely, the polling done by the Democrat leadership in the House (they poll everything) shows even mort lopsided majorities against impeachment.  One recent public poll had only 23% of voters supporting an impeachment investigation.  Americans (other than rabid Trump haters) understand that Mueller cleared Trump.  There's no reason for impeachment.  There's also no reason to interrupt the business of governing in order to have a bogus show trial that will end in failure.  So again, SURPRISE!

Actually, no surprise at all.
