The news today is that the Assad forces in Syria just killed another two hundred plus people in an attack with chemical weapons launched in a suburb of Damascus controlled by rebel forces. The attack comes just as UN inspectors are arriving in Syria to determine whether or not Assad has been using such weapons. This mass murder is either a blatant slap at the UN by Assad or a hoax by the rebels designed to add impetus to the UN inquiry. Given the many photos of dead and dying people at the site of the attack, it seems more likely to be real.
The death toll in Syria is now over 120,000. Chemical weapons have been used repeatedly even though president Obama said that such use would cross America's red line. After the first use, Obama seemed to walk back his redline comment to "repeated or systematic use" would cross the redline. We now have both.
It reminds me of the old joke:
Why did the chicken cross the redline?
Because she knew Obama would not do anything if she did.
